HLK-FAMILY EMPOWERMENT provides up to four years of training and support for parents from the Katanga slum located in Kampala, Uganda. Believing that each person is created in the image of God, the ministry encourages holistic development of each individual to fulfill his or her life purpose.
In year one, Dorcus and Maureen provide Biblical discipleship and training in interpersonal skills such as employment communication, leadership, problem solving, time management, decision making, and workplace etiquette. They are also given practical skills in literacy, numeracy, and basic livelihood skills such as hairdressing, tailoring or sewing.
In year two parents receive specialized training in the field of their choice. Training may take place at an accredited vocational school or be an apprenticeship.
Following formal training, parents will receive coaching so that they can apply their knowledge to gain work experience in years three and four.
Upon successful completion of the HLK-FAMILY EMPOWERMENT program, candidates may be awarded a monetary grant for the establishment of a small business.
